List your adoptable horses on Petfinder.com

I belong to a pet rescue group that posts pets on Petfinder.com and I feel that you too should be posting your horses for adoption on Petfinder too. Here is the what Petfinder emailed me on Tue, Jan 27, 2009.

Read it and see why Petfinder.com is the place to list your adoptable horses if you want the most people to see them. And the name of the game is “exposure”. It is the number one reason that your horse will be adopted or not — enough people have to learn that your horse is up for adoption. Listing your horses on petfinder will give them more exposure to people.

Petfinder.com continues to be ranked #1 in the Lifestyles – Pets and Animals industry category of websites, according to Hitwise online monitoring. While that is great news, it makes absolute sense. The combination of all your adoptable pets combined with all the training and information resources we offer new pet parents makes Petfinder the place to go for all things pet.

Even more exciting is our ranking 22nd in the larger overall Lifestyle category (this includes website categories such as Home and Garden; Dating; Women; Religion and much more in addition to the Pets and Animals sites). And finally, we have reached an all-time high ranking of 269th in All Categories of websites. Your adoptable pets on Petfinder have really made a name for themselves!

We are adding more content all the time and will continue to provide more resources for adopters-to-be and current pet parents. While you continue to promote your pets – by adding enticing descriptions, fabulous photos and adorable video – we have plans to continue to increase our marketing and promotion efforts on your behalf.

This past week, we made adoption the topic of discussion on the TODAY Show, not once, but twice. The Friday show (of the TODAY Show) was filmed in a shelter.

The Sunday show (of the TODAY Show) was live, including adoptable dogs in the studio.

And the best part of both of those appearances is that we saw increased traffic on Petfinder both times. That is an increase of potential adopters and nothing pleases me more.

This doesn’t mean that posting your horses for adoption on your rescue website is a bad idea. It means that the first place to post them should always be Petfinder, then if you have the time, post them to your site. BUT make sure you keep a highly visible link to your petfinder horse list on all pages of your website. Petfinder also has made it easy for your to post your listed horses on your website(s) with their new Dogpile Facebok, MySpace, and website Adopt A Pet Widgets like the one below…

Horse Listing Tips

Post three good, sharp focused horse photos and a short video clip too! Tip: If the horse is rideable then also show a photo with a rider on!

Write a good detailed bio with info on , training, usability, health, attitude, perfect owner for this horse, etc…

Announcing “Snaps” a new foal at Adopt A Foal

Baby horse born at horse rescue and is up for adoption with his mother, a mare named, “Ginger”. Yes, Ginger’s Snaps, a play on words. And yes indeed you can find beautiful foals in horse rescues, so consider the adoption option when you want to add another horse to your herd.

Foal for Adoption: Snaps

Marian Mastin, the founder of Adopt-A-Foal & Equine Rescue, Inc. sent me a press release about this new foal, “Snaps”. Boy is he a cutie! Please check out this horse rescue website and all they horses for adoption.

You can view more photos of Snaps and Ginger in the press release.

I know you may not be ready to adopt a horse or a foal, but anytime is a great time to help them out with a donation. Please visit Adopt-A-Foal & Equine Rescue, Inc. and consider making a donation to help these horses in need.

Donation does have to be cash. They accept empty laser and inkjet cartridges and used cell phones. They also promote donation of “re-gifting items” as a means to turn those unusual or unwanted gifts that many of us receive for special occasions and/or during the holidays into a tax deduction! These recycled gifts can be used as auction or raffle items for Adopt-A-Foal & Equine Rescue, Inc.’s upcoming fundraising events.

For additional information on adoption, recycling and/or re-gifting donations, please contact: Marian Mastin at 281-356-6644 or send emails to mmastin (at) adoptafoal . org [remove spaces and add @ in place of the (at)].

Don’t add to the problem of unwanted horses. Please reconsider breeding your horse! Most of the horses going to slaughter are not old, sick, mean, or crippled, just too many horses and not enough good homes. Many healthy foals and yearlings end up at the horse slaughter houses too.

Here is the latest news on the mares and foals that need homes

Marian Mastin of Adopt A Foal just sent me the following report…
—
We have some volunteers making a run to Lubbock this weekend to pick up these babies…They’ll be traveling back this way at night/early morning hours due to the heat during the daytime…it will be a long trip home since they will be stopping every couple of hours for the babies to get their bearings and balance back… and of course, to nurse.

The Bay Mare and paint foal have been spoken for, but it isn’t a done deal yet…we have one person in line waiting to see how that one hashes out…if they do become available, we will not be able to pick them up this weekend, but would most likely get them in the next couple of weeks.

The Bay Mare and colt have been adopted and will be quarantined at their new home rather than with us.

The Chocolate Paint Mare sadly lost her foal, but thankfully has been adopted.

The Roan mare and paint filly have been adopted by the same family that is taking the Chocolate paint mare.

We have three people vying for the Chestnut Mare and foal…I am waiting on applications to process…but there isn’t a done deal yet.

The Chestnut mare in foal and the Grey Arabian Cross mare are still available and need to find loving new homes…please mention them to anyone that you know that may be interested…We will forward more information on them (estimated age, health, foaling status, personality, etc.) once we get them settled here and looked at by our Vet, Dr. Melissa Hubble.

We would appreciate donations of new or used halters for both the mares and foals…. or certificates to purchase them at Spring Creek Feed Store (Melissa Hardee 281-252-5400) or Steinhausers (Connie Swetlick 281- 356-2530). We have plenty of leadropes.

If anyone has a small oval stock tank that they want to get rid of…please get in touch with us as we are having to, as part of the 2 month quarantine, keep these girls in separate pastures with separate water sources…. (actually, we need two more stock tanks but having a used one given to us would help us enormously!)

Thanks to everyone for showing their support and forwarding this flyer on our behalf… Believe it or not, we have been contacted by people from all over the country! In some cases, people got our email or flyer after already reading it from some else!

You guys are awesome!
Adopt A Foal

—
For more information on these horses for adoption please contact Marian Mastin though her contact page at, Adopt A Foal.

I too would like to thank you if you took the time to read about these horses in need and said a prayer for them and others like them. Now please lets help get the PG Chestnut mare and the pretty face Grey Arabian mare adopted too.
