“Heart” Horse Poem by Monte Baker

I talked to a friend just the other day

who’s got lots of opinions and plenty to say.

We discussed what we both like to see in a horse

his requirements and mine were different of course?

He likes a clean throatlatch and a long skinny neck,

and prefers that their hocks are set close to the deck.

Short backs and hard feet and clean slopin’ shoulder,

and a gaskin that looks like it swallered a boulder.

He likes a short face and a big ol’soft eye,

and says these are the horses he’s likely to buy.

And when he’d completed his lengthy discourse,

on all of the attributes of the quality horse,

he asked my opinion, and where do I start?

And I said that I…just want horses with heart.

I said I want heart above all the other.

I don’t care if he’s Smart Little Lena’s full brother.

Or just how much money that his grandmother won,

o r whether he’s roan, palomino or dun.

But give me a horse with some grit and some try,

and some heart and some guts and that’s one that I’ll buy.

And I’ve found it’s the same with a woman or man…

the good ones won’t quit you when the shit hits the fan…

Someone emailed me this horse poem and I thought that I would share it with you. I tried to find the poem’s author online but could not. If anyone know more about the author, Monte Baker, please leave a comment below. Also post a comment on what you think about this poem. Is heart what you look for in a horse?

12 new horse photo online greeting cards added

Two wonderfully generous ladies sent me a few gorgeous horse pictures that I turned into free greeting cards that you can send over the Internet.

Carolyn Grant has a rare black, Egyptian Arabian stallion named, “Saud El Zaghloul”, nicknamed “Z”. He is a dream – tall, dark, handsome, and exotic! Yep, good looking Arabian horses make my heart beat faster. Wish I could see him in the flesh. I added six new horse ecards from five of Z’s photos. They are posted in the following ecard categories: Arabian Horses, Friendship, Wise Words, Happy Holidays, Birthday, and Beauty.

“Z is doing great & just came back from The Miner Institute, NY, where he goes for the breeding season. We are enjoying long trail rides now and we are training over fences again. He’s happy,” says Carolyn Grant.

Deb Komro of Madison WI sent me some great horse pictures. Galloping photo of her paint horse, “Comanche” who has one brown eye and one blue eye. She also sent me a photo of her past paint horse, “Commander” who had a large white blaze on his face. A wonderful photo of “Miss Sonny” a palomino (color) Quarter Horse galloping and a delightful picture of friend Kristen Traino and her Percheron draft horse Sophie. Deb’s friend Kouros Farro took some of the photos using a Nikon camera. Deb’s photos have been made into cards for the following card categories: Thank you, Happy Birthday, and Friendship.

I’ve already put on a lot of miles on the photo e-cards you added to your website. Everyone loves them!!! Thanks for everything! You are the best!!!

Hi, I have been super busy today creating new equine ecards to add to my free horse postcards. You are sure to find one that would be perfect to send to a friend, a family member, and don’t forget your clients and potential customers.

New Year’s Resolutions Tips…

I want you to achieve more of your desires in the coming year so here are a few tips…

1. Create a Plan (yes, planning really helps)
   Step by step plans help you walk your goals up the ramp and into the trailer and on your way. Break the steps down into small doable actions.
2. Create your plan immediately
   Take action now and create your plan before your motivation to change gets caught in the carriage wheel spokes of life. Most people forget their New Year resolutions completely after only a few days, don’t join this crowd. Create your action plan now!
3. Write Your Plan of Action
   Commit your plan in writing someplace where you will be sure to notice it often, such as a notebook, journal, and/or computer date planner program.I love the following program for helping me keep track of my goals…

   Life is CHANGE, so you have to stay flexible with your business planning and give yourself backup plans because not everything is going to go your way on the first try. Learn to recognize and appreciate little successes for these build to larger goal accomplishments.
