See http://nonais.org for more info about NAIS.
The NAIS business plan was made to benefit corporate ag so they can sell meat on the global market, like to Japan. I have nothing against that. But, because I own a horse, I have been included, against my will, in a business (the word "partnership" has been used by the USDA, so I guess now makes us partners) that I want nothing to do with, yet I will be expected to fund and follow rules, (in which I had no input) that I think are unfair, burdensome and go against my constitutional rights and on top of everything, I will receive absolutely none of the profits that big ag makes.

The REAL REASON for NAIS is so big ag can sell on the global market, but they do not have to tag and track every animal, they get just one lot number per groups of animals.

This program will make it appear to foreign buyers that the USA has a good disease tracking program that makes it look like the meat they are buying is safe. But how does my telling the govt everywhere I ride my horse keep bird flu ( or mad cow disease from the factory farmed animals? Crazy, isn’t it?

I have concerns about this too. For those of us that travel with our horses this sounds like a really bad nightmare to me. If the people with cows are getting into such big trouble after selling a cow and making paperwork errors, imagine what it will be like for horse owners who could have to file paperwork everytime they haul a horse. I'd probably end of in jail.
