Does horse slaughter reduce the rate of abuse?

Many people believe that horse slaughter is a necessary evil are animal abuse and neglect rates will skyrocket.

But what is the truth about horse slaughter and are you getting it?

I just found this news article: The relationship between horse slaughter and reported cases of abuse and neglect that takes a magnified look and goes into studied detailed about this controversial issue of equine slaughter and if it is for the best or not. This news report doesn’t just state what one people thinks is going on or what they think will happen in the future. It gets scientific with graphics, records, numbers, and history.

Are we in for a horror story with a quickly climbing over population of unwanted horses? Will sick and starving horses become a common site? Is slaughtering horses what is best for them? Or do people want to slaughter horses because is is what is best for them and they bottom line?

The relationship between horse slaughter and reported cases of abuse and neglect

Did you know that the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Assoc.), AAEP (American Assoc. of Equine Practitioners) and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Assoc.) all support horse slaughter. Should they – given the facts that this article brings out?

The article is a l-o-n-g one and has math figures in it, but I believe that all horse people should read it.

P.S. After you read it please come back here and let me know your thoughts on the The “Unwanted Horse” theory”. You can agree or disagree, but don’t get nasty about it. Thanks!
